Bariatric Revision Surgery

Treatments

There are multiple different bariatric surgical procedures available, and each surgeon has a slightly different technique when performing each of them. Gastric band procedures used to be very common, but over time, the band can move, allowing you to consume more food in one sitting and gain weight again. Your surgeon is most likely to correct this with another bariatric surgery, a revision, where they will remove the lap-band and perform either a gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy.

If your first bariatric surgery was a gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, or duodenal switch and you are not achieving the weight loss expected, a second surgery may be possible.  If it is the right choice for you, your surgeon would most like look to reduce your stomach pouch size again, which would also be considered a Bariatric Revision Surgery.

Is weight loss surgery revision right for me?

At Beltline Health, we are happy to provide you with a consultation if you feel a revision surgery may be necessary, no matter who, when, or where your first surgery took place. Our surgeons will help you figure out what has happened and recommend the best course of action for you.

Of course, bariatric surgery requires a lifelong commitment to new eating habits and healthy lifestyle choices. We see patients who stop their regular check-ins with their dietitian and surgical team and, without these accountability partners, start to slip into bad habits. Since our bodies are great at adapting, it is possible over time to stretch your stomach and enable it to accept more food. This is why, at Beltline Health, we are committed to providing our patients with the lifetime of care they need to maintain their weight loss and the healthy lifestyle this requires.

You should not feel bad about weight gain. Remember how far you have come and that you can continue to move forward with the right support.
